Student Life

Registered Student Organizations (RSOs)

There are many ways for students in the Sociology and Anthropology Department to get involved while also building their resumés. They can join Professional or Student Organizations, obtain Internships, participate in the University Research Symposium, or Volunteer.

The Sociology and Anthropology Department is associated with three Registered Student Organizations: the Sociology Club, Alpha Kappa Delta, and the Society of Student Anthropologists.

  • Sociology Club

We are passionate about the structure and functioning of human society, along with identifying social problems. ISU's Sociology Club welcomes all major’s and minor’s, regardless of your area of study. Not only can you put this on your resume, but you will also be able to create connections with students and faculty on campus!

  • Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD)

The department is home to a chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society. Alpha Kappa Delta is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. To become a member see the AKD Membership Requirements. For more information, contact Dr. Richard Sullivan at rdsulli@IllinoisState.edu.

  • Lambda Alpha

Lambda Alpha is the national collegiate honors society for anthropology. The purpose of the society is to encourage and stimulate scholarship and research in anthropology by recognizing and honoring superior achievement in the discipline among students, faculty and other persons engaged in the study of anthropology. For more information, contact Dr. Liv Stone at lkstone@IllinoisState.edu.

  • Society of Student Anthropologists

We, the members of the Society of Student Anthropologists, shall enhance anthropological education on campus through an appreciation of diversity, culture, language, and the past in the campus community. Acting as an association representative of anthropology students to the department, we hope to give its members leadership experience and increase communication between students and the faculty and staff of the department.
