Motivated students may be interested in completing independent study courses or assistantships which give them opportunities to work closely with professors in either teaching or researching environments.
Working one-on-one with professors, motivated students can design and pursue their own projects. Independent study applications must be filled out for either the Sociology major course.
Teaching assistantships provide high-achieving students with the opportunity to work closely with professors as assistants in their classes. Students must fill out the Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship Application before enrolling in SOC 291.
Students who are especially interested in sociological research can develop their skills by assisting with professors' research projects. The assistantships are arranged between the faculty member and the student and are individualized experiences based on the needs of the faculty member and the student involved. The Research Assistantship Application must be filled out before enrolling in SOC 398.02.
